Warm Fusion

by gayouj on Aug.30, 2009, under Four Strings

Features

  • Red Oak and Poplar neck
  • Figured White Birch veneer headstock
  • Corian nut
  • 4 string tapered neck
  • Stainless steel frets
  • Classic Telecaster neck pickup
  • Volume knob, chrome finish
  • Custom Mara wood acoustic bridge
  • Handmade red oak jack plate
  • Chrome strap buttons

The idea behind Warm Fusion is that it combines the engineering science of the electric guitar with the artistry of acoustic guitar construction and the tradition of the four string cigar box guitar.  I feel that I have combined these things successfully and the result is better than I had expected.

The parts of this guitar that I am most pleased with are the bridge and the neck.  I wasn’t sure how a tapered four string neck would look here and was initially concerned about string spacing, however I find that the guitar plays quite comfortably.  The bridge, which has been hand shaped from a piece of Mara wood, is one of the best I’ve done so far, using Martin bridge pins and an intonable brass saddle.

Excluding the hardware, every piece of this guitar was hand made.

This particular guitar was built for charity.  I made it especially for Golden Crown Productions to auction off on September 25th at their Rockabilly show, the proceeds of which will go to benefit The Unforgettables Foundation (a 501c (3) NPO that assists families struggling with the death of a child).  Being a parent myself, I am deeply honored to be a part of this.

Rockfest 2009, Lake Elsinore, Saturday August 15th

by gayouj on Aug.13, 2009, under News

Okay, here we go again!

This Saturday (15th August) I’ll be at the Diamond Stadium in Lake Elsinore as a vendor at Rockfest 2009.  The guys at Golden Crown have a pretty crazy line up for this one, including Guns N Roses alumni Gilby Clark (with the Gilby Clark Band), Warrant, Great White, Pretty Boy Floyd, Adler’s Appetite, and Kottak.

I did the Awesome 80′s show with Golden Crown last month at this stadium and all I can say is that this little ball park we have in Lake Elsinore makes one hell of a concert venue.  I wasn’t quite sure how it was going to work out before I saw it but was quite surprised to see what a class act the whole event was.

The guys at Golden Crown are all first rate individuals who do a great deal for the whole community here.  Their shows are always benefitting a worthy cause or charitable organization (again, local) and Gregg always manages to fast talk people into donating slick items like custom guitars or motor cycles for auctions and raffles, which also benefit those charities.  I’m very proud to be a part of what they do.

So if you happen to be in the area at the time and you want to come see me, Gilby Clark, and all of the rest of the guys, BUY TICKETS NOW!!!

The show starts at 7:00 pm.

Make sure you stop by my table, talk music with me, play with my guitars.  Hell, just buy one, okay?

Les Paul: RIP

by gayouj on Aug.13, 2009, under News

In trying to think of something to say about Les Paul, I keep coming up blank.  What do you say about a legend of revolutionized music in such a fundamental way?  He’ll be sorely missed.

Added Flickr to my site

by gayouj on Aug.13, 2009, under News

Decided to link up a Flickr account to my site (find it in the links section).  I usually post pictures of guitars there but you can also find family pictures there every once in a while if I like them.

Here’s my photostream:

Updates to the site make it easier to get a guitar!

by gayouj on Aug.12, 2009, under News

Hello, all!  I’ve been making some tweaks here and there to the site lately that are intended to make it easier for you to own a new guitar.  One of the things that’s available to you right now is a link taking you directly to any of the auctions I currently have running on eBay.

Due to the rapid turn around nature of the eBay marketplace (there is typically no haggling over guitar features or design, a buyer just selects a type of guitar and pays for it), any orders that I get from eBay are usually met first.  So if you’re the type of person who just wants to click on a “buy” button, this is definitely for you.

You can access my currently active auctions by clicking the link provided to the right (where it says “My Guitars Currently Available on eBay”), or you can click the “order a custom guitar” link all the way at the top of the page.

ShareThis

Also, I’ve added ShareThis to the site.  ShareThis is a cool little tool that allows you, the reader, to take a post from my site and forward it out to other social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace.  This is where I say something about how cool that is for you but really, I’m just shamelessly plugging for more site traffic.

Smokehouse Guitars in the News: Help Ride 2009

by gayouj on Aug.07, 2009, under News

Looks like I’m in another news article, this time the Californian.  This article covers the Help Ride that we’re doing at the end of August to benefit the families of police officers killed in the line of duty.  I’m very excited to be a part of this one.

Read about the event here:

Also, if you’re going to be in the area at the time please come by.  The cause is really good and admission is free to the general public if you just want to come and enjoy some good music and look at some gorgeous bikes.
