The Hot Rod
by gayouj on Aug.30, 2010, under Six Strings
Features
- 25.5″ Scale
- Wenge Neck
- Gabon Ebony fingerboard
- Quilted Sappelle head plate
- Wenge control cover plates
- Two Way Truss Rod
- Buffalo Bone Nut
- Medium Nickel/Silver Fret Wire
- MOP Inlay
- 16″ Neck Radius
- French Polish Finish, Blond Shellac (neck)
- All Chrome Hardware
- GFS Little Crunchy Mini Humbuckers
- Master Volume/Tone
- Push/Pull Coil Tap (tone knob)
- 3-way Selector Switch
- Top loader bridge
- Solid poplar body insert
This is a true solid body guitar. There is a solid block of poplar inside the box, giving the instrument an unusually bright tone. The wenge/ebony neck is incredibly solid and stable, yielding impeccable sustain. The pickups are designed to address many of the problems found in typical mini-humbuckers. They are wound at 8.8K and 7.6K for the bridge and neck (respectively), and are heavily potted to eliminate microphonics. The internals feature warm-wound oversize ceramic magnets, providing great upper-mid-range with zero harshness. The tone knob doubles as a coil tap to put the humbuckers into single coil mode. Single coil mode provides bright and lively tone, with the bridge pickup almost channeling vintage Telecaster sounds.

Features
- 25.5″ Scale
- African Mahogany Neck
- Cocobolo Fretboard
- Tiger Maple Headstock Veneer
- Two Way Truss Rod
- Buffalo Bone Nut
- Medium Nickel/Silver Fret Wire
- MOP Inlay
- 16″ Neck Radius
- French Polish Finish, Blond Shellac (neck)
- All Black Hardware
- Strap Locks
- GFS Dream 90 Pickups (P90′s in a modified humbucker case)
- Master Volume/Tone
- 3-way Selector Switch
- String-through-body Bridge
The look of this guitar is stunning but the best part about it is the pickup configuration. Vintage P90 pickups have a truly unique sound but they are also know for their noise issues. These are boutique level pickups that have been potted to eliminate microphonics and they are set up for some serious output; 8.4 K at the bridge and 8.2 K at the neck. The best thing about them by far is that the neck pickup is reverse wound, such that when both pickups are selected the provide true humbucking performance (absolutely zero noise at rest, even with the gain dialed up as high as it will go).

This is another custom guitar that I made for Shane Speal. If you know who he is (just Google him – he’s everywhere) then you know he’s a fanatic for a three string guitar. Well, in his never ending progression through insanity, he asked me to design a three string guitar with the sound of an old school Rickenbacker 12 string. It’s a little nuts when you think about it; if you know of a three string guitar that out-fancies this one please let me know, okay? I’d love to see it.

“Lona”
by gayouj on Sep.12, 2009, under Six Strings
My wife wanted me to build her a guitar. She got her hands on a Millonario box, gave it to me, and said to please make her a guitar using it. This is what I can up with.
It took a long time to make, mostly because I wanted to make sure the neck matched the body perfectly. I had an Australian Lacewood blank and a Rosewood fingerboard blank sent out to me and started from there.
Features
- Custom carved Austrailian Lacewood Neck
- East Indian Rosewood Fingerboard
- Burled Walnut Headstock Veneer
- MOP Inlay
- Solid Body (Poplar)
- All gold hardware (including frets)
- MOP Top Dome Knobs
- Coil Tapped Humbucker (Volume, Push/Pull Tone)
- Fender Hard Tail Top Loader Bridge
- High Gloss Lacquer and Polyurethane Finish
Custom Montecristo
by gayouj on Jun.18, 2009, under Six Strings
The Custom Montecristo is a guitar made for serious performers. The guitar shown here uses a limited edition cigar box with commisioned artwork by a French painter. This is the only box of its kind that I’ve ever seen and it was provided to me by the client. If you’d like one of these guitars, my chances of finding a box just like this one are unlikely.
